The best way to get your week started: Sporty Monday!

Every Monday there is Kemira's reservation to the sport hall downstairs the building where Kemiras Gdansk office is located. In our intranet we have the possibility to vote for the sport every week, but there was never a sport that won against volleyball :D

The game is so intense that my camera can't quite handle it

Usually we are 5-10 persons. This is a nice way to get to know to the collegues from other departments as well. We Finns have a bad habit to stick together but somehow you can't find many when it comes to sporty Monday... Maybe the scare of losing causes the lack of Finns since the Polish volleyball standard is pretty high ;)

The situation wasn't the most exciting, but you'll get the picture....

See you on next Monday!

Summer Party!

Last Saturday most of the trainees participated to Kemira's annual Summer Party. The event was held in place called Puck, which is about one hour drive from Gdansk.

Program included a lot of sea activities; we were taught a bit about sailing and we got to experience the speed of the speedboats.

There were also a mystery game where the idea was to figure out the killer. Story was that in that same place, two nights ago, one of the big company's boss had died and we needed to sort out what excactly had happened by interviewing people. There were actors who were wearing costumes like waitress, diver and secretary, and they all had their own story to be told. In the end this mystery game part didn't went so well, because we couldn't guess the killer :(

After all planned activities it was time to eat! An amazing view and cooks who were grilling salmon, pork, chicken... Yep it was the cherry on top of the perfect summer day.

And last but not the least the beautiful sunset :)

In one month..

In one month I have learnt..

how to create tickets.
how to categorize different tickets.
how to priotize tickets.
how to use BMC Remedy IT Service Management (Aqua).
how to take remote control with Bomgar.
how to find information about the users, computer, servers - well,
basically everything.

In one month I have..

started to get Clarity calls.
learnt whom to ask what.
learnt where to find more information.
enjoyed the cheap food.
experienced my first food poisoning.
had my first sick leave because of it.

In one month I have..

been partying in Sopot.
enjoyed the beach.
visited Warsaw.

started yoga.
tried bouldering.
met so many new people
and made new friends.

In one month I have done so much, yet so little.

Now at the office: Table Football Tournament!

24 teams and 2 series - excitement is growing.

Employees of the Kemira Gdansk have formed two-persons-teams and the first games have already started. Of course the interns wanted to experience also this so Katja and Anna are participating as team Kalsarikännit and the rest of the interns are cheering them to the victory!

Team Kalsarikännit first game was yesterday. It was against team Weltschmerz. Even though Kalsarikännit fought well, Weltschmerz won 8-3 in both rounds. As you can see, at least Anna knows how to enjoy the goal!

Waiting for the next game..

Some pictures from beautiful Warsaw

We had the pleasure to participate Finnish Summer Picnic and visit Warsaw. Here are some pictures of our adventure there:
Enjoying the sun and amazing pasta <3

The girls would've loved some balloons

As early birds ( ;) ) me and AJ had the opportunity to see the sunrise in the old town
Which do you prefer? Daylight or sunrise?

A perfect Sunday

The outstanding buiding of Museum of Culture and Science

And from another angle (at this point I realised that I was walking in circles)

The trip was very nice and we liked Warsaw a lot. We are planning to visit Malbork and Poznan this summer as well. Do you have any ideas of other places we should visit, while we still are in Poland?

Warsaw is so crazy if you ask me... <3

Cologne Friendship Cup

Kemira Gdansk took part in Cologne Friendship Cup last Saturday. For some reason most of the players were male, but luckily Kemira Gdansk had Annica giving her effort for the team. Other teams participating were Bayer, thyssenkrupp, Lufthansa Plus, Arla Foods GBS Gdansk and FC Jumbo Cologne.

We fans missed the first game because we got confused where the field is. The team spirit experienced a boost in the second game when the fans started scream. I have to say - Kemira's team improved in every match. The last game went on to the penalty kicks.

And as one colleague said - "Sometimes the best team doesn't win."

Oh, and there was also some dangerous situations..

Przepraszam, nie movię po polsku...

The hardest thing when adjusting to Polish habits has been the language. As you can see from the topic, it doesn’t really seem like any other language we already know. Although our group is very language skilled (among Finnish and English we speak Swedish, German, French, Spanish and a bit of Korean, Japanese and Dutch) none of us has learnt Slavic languages before.

Let's go the beach!

Luckily most of the Polish speak English. But of course there are exceptions. On my first week we wanted to know where we can throw the trash with Katja but instead we were guided to a restaurant nearby, because the receptionist thought that we wanted to go to eat.

We were meeting some Polish students who study Finnish the other day at the University and I was asked where do I live. I pronounced as well as I could Wrzeszcz [wrschesch], but they still thought it was funny.

Lunch break

Here are some phrases we use on a daily basis:
Dzień dobry [zin tobre] - Good morning or Hello
Cześć [tseht] - Hi (between acquaintances]
Do widzenia [tovizenja] - (Good)bye
Tak - Yes
Nie - No
Dziękuję [zinkuja] - Thank you
Przempraszam [sheprasham] - Sorry or Excuse me
(this was very hard word to learn so we invented a stupid mnemonic: “sheep russian” sounds actually very similar to przepraszam....)

“Nie movię po polsku” has been my most used phrase here so far. And it’s a perfect sentence, since you don’t even have to say it perfectly to be understood: I don’t speak Polish.

And most importantly: never say hui! when you get scared. ;)

Fruit Wednesday!

Every Wednesday we get fruits, provided by Kemira.

Fruits are coming!

It's quite funny, because people know that the fruit loads are coming around lunch time and even though there are plenty of fruits for all, you still need to be fast if your want to get your personal favorites. So people are tiptoeing around and when the fruits finally come, people are almost running to get their share of it.

Bananas, oranges, apples, watermelon and even blueberries!
In our floor there are usually still some fruits left after weekend, but one floor below where Anna-Aleksandra and Katja are working, fruits are vanished in the end off the day.
